    Impressive african zoomorphic mask representing the antelope (Kan) in Bwa / Bobo artA traditional african mask made of wood in the shape of a stylised antelope (Kan) head, engraved to the surface with deep lines. Large horns extending up, large circular eyes to the front with triangular projecting mouth. Engraved areas filled with a buff pigment. The Bwa and Bobo people have maintained their belief in animistic practices and it is the mask that represent the spirits of the bush and take on the form of pig, hornbill, hyena, and buffalo, but with the antelope being one of the most popular. The mask that represent supernatural spirits are always shown in an abstract form decorated with geometric patterns. The mask are used in ritual dances that mimic the movements of the animal represented.Provenance
