    Description

Antique Hand-Carved Ceremonial Tribal Mask w/ Woman, Ox, Lizard, & Snake
This hand-carved antique tribal ceremonial mask is in excellent condition for its age. The main shape is oval with an alternating triangle pattern around the majority of the piece. The crown of the piece is a red-skinned woman, in bralette and loin cloth, sitting and holding the very tips of the central figure on the max, an ox. The ox is painted black with colored bands and designs on the horns and face. Its eyes are wide and the mouth is open to reveal sharp teeth and a pointed tongue.
To either side of this central carving are two more low-relief pieces. On the right is a black snake, almost blending in with the background, brought forward with similar painted designs and his white eyes and red tongue. To the left is a lizard done in complete inverse to the snake in brilliant white with a red head and black designs on the body. The mask has several holes for hanging and wearing, but with no openings for eyes, nose, or mouth.
The mask measures 18" long, 9" wide (at its broadest point,) and 7" deep. It weighs approximately 2 lbs.
