Meissen 19th Century grouping depicting the figure of a drunken Silenius on a donkey supported by his Foster son Bacches, the patron of grape growing, merriment and wine in Greek Mythology. Originally created by Friederich Elias Meyer in 1760. This group also includes a draped Bacchante feeding grapes to the donkey, whilst a mischievous putto pulls the donkey's tail. Also there is an attendant supporting the drunken Silenus.
This grouping is marked with Meissen crossed swords, first quality and inscribed with the model number 2724. Tremendous detail.
