Vintage Ghana African Mask Wooden Senufu Africa Wall Hanging-44.7/17.5 CM
Vintage Senufu wall-hanging mask, hand-made in Ghana, comes with original flyer. Originally from the Senufu tribe of the Ivory Coast, this hand-made mask stands as a primary symbol of the metaphysical world in which the imperfection of the human existence is strongly emphasized. The figures are worn on the head, and their form depend upon the group to which they belong, not unlike a coat of arms. The best known are a bundle of palm nuts, the symbol of wood carvers; a bird, the symbol of metal smiths; and a comb, the symbol of agriculture. Some masks have double heads, signifying the male and female principles of the universe joined for fertility.
