Advantages of wide angle enlarging lens:
A shorter focal length lens means that you can get a bigger print from the whole negative or enlarge any portion of it.
The higher you must raise your enlarger above the baseboard, the more chance there is for image destroying vibration or misalignment to spoil your work. Then, too, the best way to get all the sharpness of which your system is capable is to observe the actual grain pattern on the easel with high power, short focal length grain magnifier as you focus the image. And, that's virtually impossible to if you have to stretch your arm out of joint to reach the focus knob or depend on mechanical linkages.
