Bronze figures - use of the lost form "cire perdu" - brass-20.5/12.5 CM
This process is an old African process with which figures, beads and handicrafts are produced in a complex manner. The material used here is bronze. It is called lost mold because a wax model and a clay mold are produced each time, which are then lost through the melting process. First, the wax model is made, around which a clay coat is placed. After the clay has dried, the whole thing is heated and this allows the wax to spill out. Then the metal is heated over a charcoal fire and poured into the clay mold in liquid form. After cooling, the clay mold is broken and lost, hence the term "lost mold". A new wax model with a new clay mold must be made for each additional part. Finally, there is the fine machining, i.e. the cast part is ground, decorated with patterns and then polished. Each of these little crafts is unique!
