    Description

An extremely significant ceremonial costume purchased from a well-respected gallery in North Carolina. The provenance on the Gallery letterhead reads  "the costume is a 'Kambong Batua' dance costume. Similar examples are found in Art Royal Kuba. We receive the peace from a brothers of the King of the Kuba. He is a member of the royal family." Gallery curator says his source is reliable and I know that the curator is most reliable having known him for over four decades. Also included is a photocopy of Joe Cornet's
    Art Royal Kuba
pages 174 and 175 showing similar ceremonial examples. A rare and unique piece.

the grand kids have told me that they have no interest in any of the collections in the family’s traveling museum-- MOCAPA. A bit disappointing to hear but well understood in the 21st century. Plus, for me, collecting lacks the attraction that it had in years past as well as the steward collectors. Thanks, joe
