MAGNIFICENT ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MEISSEN CENTERPIECE BOWL WITH EIGHT CHILD FIGURES AND LARGE RETICULATED BOWL
We are proud to offer this magnificent antique Victorian era Meissen centerpiece bowl that is quite large with a supporting stem supporting eight adorable children in a variety of activities including one warming hands by a fire, one asleep, two with arms around each other and a lapful of flowers, one sleeping, one holding wine, one with a basket of fruit, and one holding a sheaf of wheat. Of course, the entire piece is hand painted with applied delicate flowers everywhere.  The reticulated bowl is 15-1/2" by 11" atop the center support and the overall height is 17."  What a fabulous old Meissen piece this is. It has multiple restorations (see the photo of the child with both feet and lower legs restored) and losses to flowers and petals. I believe one child has a lost index finger and there is an old hairline to one of the shell edges of the bowl extending about 4" into the bowl (See photos above.) None of these issues detracts from the magnificence of this piece.  It is signed with the Meissen blue crossed swords underfoot, the mark partially obscured by the bolt and dates to the late 1800s.
