Mali, Burkina Faso African Carved Wood and Metal Marka DOUBLE face Ceremonial Mask. Condition is pre-owned very good vintage condition.
Vintage Mali or Burkina Faso African Marka (Warka) hardwood ceremonial facial mask.  The mask has some of the classic traits of the Marka including the metal pattern sheeting on the face and forehead, the similar wood carved pattern to the metal pattern sheeting on the wood antlers, and the thin strips of metal sheeting that extend down all the way from the sides of the eyes down the elongated face to the sides of the mouth.  Red cotton tassels decorate the mask.  The mask was carved from one solid piece of hardwood.
The nose is extremely long and elegantly thin, and the eyes are cast downward, which is a sign of respect in many African masks. The metal sheeting is affixed to the face with small nails or brads, and the metal and wood have a worn patina that comes with age.
