    Description

    For sale is
a truly gorgeous charger / serving bowl made by Meissen in the early 20th century. One comes across these cobalt blue ground and floral charger from time to time and they are always really nice looking but this is the only version with the raised design in between that is thickly gilded and it looks amazing! It must be part of the B-Form line of dishes they made. What makes this piece even more interesting is the written part on the back of the plate stating Ehrenpreis fuer 16.8.38 Reichstatthalter v. Sachsen Landesregierung . So this was a special prize that was either given to or by the imperial lieutenant of the state of Saxony on August 16, 1938 just before WWII . That title was held only by one man during this period and that was Martin Mutschmann who was the Nazi Regional Leader of the state of Saxony during the time of the Third Reich. You can look up his history online as I am not about to go into that sort of detail here given the history. The plate has six panels of a single flower on white ground surrounded by that amazing gold trim with a larger floral arrangement on white ground in the center. The areas in between have that deep cobalt blue ground color to them with more gilding along the edge of the plate. A really stunning look! The piece is in perfect condition with just a spot or two of gold wear along the very edge and thus it displays perfectly! The plate is marked underneath with the under glaze blue swords mark (first choice) as well as the usual impressed and painter's marks, etc. as shown as well as the inscription. The inscription is not fired on but written on in a thick gold paint which explains the discrepancy between the date of the mark of the plate and the inscription. It was added after the factory made the plate. The dish is 1.875 inches tall and 11 inches in diameter. So a really nice large charger type plate or bowl!
