Teke, African Tribal Mask , Carved and Painted, Vintage/Antique

This interesting mask will make a wonderful addition to anyone?s collection of African, West African, or Ethnographic art. We believe this mask is from the Teke people of both Cogo republics and Gabon. It has very nice incised details and has areas white, red and brown paint. It is an older mask with a nice age patina and very little paint loss. There are two cracks, most likely from wood shrinkage. One has an old repair that has been painted over, maybe by the original maker. The other is at the extreme top of the mask. There are photos where they can be assessed. This kind of cracking is quite common in tribal masks. It shows no sign of active or past insect infestation. There is a wire and a string for hanging on the wall. It is approximately 13 1/4" high by 13 3/4" wide.
Purchased at an estate auction, it is of unknown provenance. We make no claims to its age, authenticity or previous use.
