    Description

    Here, we have a vintage African hand carved wooden mask. It is described on the attached tag "Ivory Coast Ghana Guere Tribe Crocodile or Bird". Ghana may, or may not, be crossed out. It was item 159 and the selling price was 0.00. The mask is made with eyes to see through, holes along the sides and a mouth that opens and closes with large teeth and a large tongue. This measures approximately 21" long, 8" wide and 6 1/2" deep. It weighs 3 pounds 8 ounces.
    This is in very good condition for its age and possible use. The well carved mask has some bits of white paint on the face. The white paint on the teeth may, or may not, be original. The lower jaw is connected with a newer rope or string. As I am not an expert, please see my photographs for more description.
    My friends are moving to a smaller home and parting with some of their treasures. They purchased this from the estate of a local artist who was an avid collector of rare masks. We do not know where or when he purchased this.
