Description

Wild Heerbrugg Zeiss Wild Reprogon 150mm 6” f5.6 enlarger lens for Ultra Large Format. One of the actual few things that are truly rare on eBay!
About 15 years ago, I salvaged this from a former USAF enlarger that was had been used to print aerial photos. The enlarger was painted green. I’m not positive, but I think it was a Wild Heerbrugg VG1. It made a Salzman or Durst enlarger look like a toy. These enlargers were the best available. It was insanely large. This lens is circa 1954. These lens were designed to be able to print all the detail from Aviogon and Super Aviogon aerial lenses.
Wild Heerburg was a Swiss company that made the famous
Aviogon and Super Aviogon aerial lenses among other things. Later, they were bought by Zeiss.
This
high-performance objective  had a focal length of
6 inch with a maximum angular field of view 74 degree.
According to a United States Air Force book I found, it
has a resolving power of 100 lines per mm in the center and 60 lines per mm in the corners. It uses an electromagnetic shutter and aperture control. You can manually move the levers to open and close the aperture and shutter. They move freely. Plenty of people using electronic shutters nowadays, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to use it.
Most aerial film was 9x9” from rolls, but I seem to recall that the enlarger was 10x10", but I could be wrong.
This is probably the finest, and surely one of the most expensive, enlarger lenses ever made. It is approximately 14lbs. It is approximately 9" long and the front elements are about 5" in diameter.
One half of lens barrel has some very light surface rust on it. I think this is the half that was contained within the enlarger which likely trapped humidity. The front element without the 'hood' on it has a faint mark on it. I'd call it a cleaning mark seemingly affecting the coating only. I did my best to photograph it, but it is faint as stated.
For Salzman, Durst Laborator, Zeiss SEG, DeVere,  or other 8x10 10x10 9x9  enlargers.
